The Flying Samaritans is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-profit organization based out of various chapters throughout the American Southwest. The Flying Samaritans aims to provide free medical and dental services to underserved communities in Baja California. The Tucson Chapter in particular hosts two clinics, El Rosario and Laguna San Ignacio. In 2008, a group of committed students formed a sister club at the University of Arizona. With support of the Tucson Chapter and an NGO called Frontera de Cristo, the third clinic in Agua Prieta was established. This clinic is comprised of volunteer medical and dental personnel, undergraduate students, and medical students. Every month, students recruit medical and dental professionals to drive with them to the Flying Sams Agua Prieta Clinic to bring health services to a community in need. Flying Samaritans provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in medicine and other health professions to get involved in providing care for underserved populations. It not only allows students a chance to get hands-on experience, and allows for the cultural exchange that will allow them to grow as global citizens and fight disparities in global health.
